About

DURA emerged from a conversation that took place at a 2011 seminar on Independent Publishing in the UK. Listening to publishers, writers, readers, educationalists, Arts Council staff and librarians talk knowledgeably and earnestly about what was needed for a thriving UK ecosystem for books, in particular, and for culture in general, I asked, “Well, what should we at Universities do?”. Their response – “keep reading, teaching and talking!” DURA is our response to that counsel. DURA is keen to promote the diversity of artists and art forms in the UK context, supporting especially (albeit non-exclusively) independent cinema outlets, exhibitions, theatre, film and publishing.
