The 2018 Essay conference

The essay, for many, exists as a form of writing associated with assessment and examination – a formulaic procedure that bears little or no resemblance to its original literary expression of risk- taking - as the word essayer suggests – to attempt, have a go, try something out. What happens when we think of essays less as objects or nouns… and more of “essaying” as an activity, a kind of writing adventure?
